Dr. Hieu T. Ball is double fellowship-trained in pediatric and adult spine surgery. In this exciting time of technological advances in spine surgery, Dr. Ball devotes his practice to critical evaluation of the most current treatment options for neck, mid-back, and low-back problems. His patient-centered, individualized approach to caring for patients helps him achieve accurate diagnoses and precise, tailored treatment plans that optimize the spinal health outcomes for his patients. Dr. Ball has 20 years of experience specializing in the treatment of spinal disorders including neck and back problems, including sciatica, herniated discs, neurological deficits (weakness, numbness), stenosis, scoliosis, and trauma. 

At CalSpine MD, the cornerstones of treatment focus on conservative, non-operative techniques which include medication management, lifestyle and activity modification, physical therapy, and interventional pain management. For some patients, Pilates, yoga, acupuncture, and chiropractic treatments may be recommended. 

When nonoperative methods are exhausted, some patients may benefit from surgical treatment. Dr. Ball specializes in all aspects of spine surgery, including minimally invasive spine surgery and motion-preserving spine surgery with expertise in artificial or total disc replacement surgery. Simple and complex conditions, first-time and revision surgeries, are all within the scope of practice at CalSpine MD.

At CalSpine MD, we provide several services for the convenience of our patients. These include

• Prompt and Responsive Appointment Scheduling 
• Insurance Authorization for Diagnostic Tests, including CT, MRI, EMG/Nerve Conduction Studies, Radiographs, etc.
• Insurance Authorization for Treatments, including epidural steroid injections, facet blocks, selective nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation/rhizotomy, chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, etc. 
• Surgery Authorization 

Radiology Services. For the convenience of our patients, we are located adjacent to San Ramon Regional Medical Center, where radiology services may be quickly accessed.

Electronic Medical Record System. All medical records are maintained through our HIPAA compliant, secure electronic medical record system for maximum efficiency, patient safety, and insurance compliance. 

Workers’ Compensation. At CalSpine MD, we maintain a high standard of care when treating work-related injuries. Dr. Ball is chosen time after time by case managers/adjusters and injured employees to be their preferred Workers’ Compensation provider. 

Disability Forms. We will assist in completing disability forms at a nominal fee. Check out our Financial Policy for costs associated with this service.

Insurances Accepted. Insurances accepted include most industrial insurance carriers, all major PPO plans, and Medicare. We are currently not participating in HMO plans but would be happy to offer consultations and Second Opinions at a nominal rate.
